CATASTROPHIE  "Oy Vey my Child is Gay & an Addict"

by Anne Lapedus Brest

CATASTROPHE – Oy vey my child is gay and an addict  is the story of a mother who discovers much to her shock and horror, that not only is her beautiful talented and Kind David educated daughter gay, but angela’s also a hopeless addict, hooked on highly addictive CAT, a synthetic amphetamine.

And so Anne Lapedus Brest’s once-safe world of family gatherings and Shabbos dinners is torn apart as her daughter’s dark descent into the alley of lies, forged cheques and pawn shops becomes a daily occurrence.

Written with insight, rare honesty and indomitable humour, this true story is ultimately a tale of redemption as Angela claws her way into recovery and Anne’s unconditional love finally triumphs.

COMMENTS.

  •  “Not since Adele Searll’s  ‘It can’t happen to Me’  has there been as powerful a book as Catastrophe.   A must read, not only for addicts and parents, but for everyone.  – Alex Hamlyn, leading drug expert and counsellor.

  • In a world awash with junkie memoirs, Brest’s book is singular in exploring the devastation, denial and disbelief of having an addict in one’s life.  Indeed, reading CATASTROPHE is like watching a slow-motion car crash.. you want to yell “Stop, stop now, but you just know how it’s going to end.” – James Siddall,  DYSTOPIA.
